Home / Campus & community / Safety message: Spiked or tampered drinks

This weekend, we have received concerns that students attending off-campus events may have had their drinks tampered with or spiked.  The university is offering support to those directly impacted.

There are steps you can take to protect yourselves and each other. If you drink, please pour your own drinks and never leave your drinks unattended.

We encourage you to contact police if you notice any suspicious activity around your drinks or if you have other safety concerns. In an emergency, please contact 911 and then Campus Security.

If you have experienced or witnessed sexualized violence at UVic, please know that there are many people at UVic who can help.  The Sexualized Violence Resource Office, Student Wellness, Campus Security, and UVSS Anti-Violence Project are just a few resources available on campus. Please reach out for support.
