Jan. 19 at 12:30 p.m.

System administrators have completed the restoration of all systems and services impacted by the EDC2 power outage.

All systems and services are now operational; however, some may still require verification to ensure they are functioning normally. If you believe a system you use has been affected and is not operating as expected, please contact your usual support channels or email [email protected].

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as the team addressed this issue.


Jan. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Currently 100% of administrative systems and 95% of research systems are back online and functioning normally.

The team will continue working this evening to bring the remaining systems back online.


Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m.

System Administrators worked late into the evening last night to bring systems and services back online.

Currently 100% of administrative systems are back online and functioning normally.

The Team continues to restore research systems and services.  At this time 65% of research systems are back up and running.  It is expected that the remaining systems will be back online and functioning normally by 6 p.m. today.

The next update will be later this evening or first thing Monday morning. 


Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

As of 6 p.m. all university administrative systems are back online and functioning normally.  System Administrators will focus on bringing the remaining research related systems back online this evening.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the University Systems team who have worked tirelessly today to resolve these issues.

Jan. 17 at 3:00 p.m.

University Systems staff continue to make progress on bringing impacted systems and services back online.

Wired and wireless networks are now functioning normally. Note that M365, Email, and BrightSpace are not impacted by this issue.

We are working as quickly as we can, however, some systems and services will not be back online until later this evening.

We’ll continue to update you as information becomes available.

An unexpected power outage in the data centre has impacted many technical services at UVic, including Banner and FAST.

University Systems and Facilities Management are working together to restore all services as soon as possible.
