Birds-eye view of UVic campus.

Dear students,

Welcome to campus, and a special welcome to our new incoming students.

The first few weeks of September offer numerous opportunities to get involved in campus life. I hope you try something new this year—whether that’s joining one of our 200+ clubs and course unions, playing on an intramural sports team or attending an event on campus.

This is also an important time to establish healthy routines that will support you throughout the term. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the academic and wellness supports available to you so that you might set a strong foundation for the year, both academically and for your well-being.

As we head into the first full weekend of term, I would also like to draw your attention to important safety information. In an emergency, always call 9-1-1 first. If you’re on campus, you can then contact Campus Security at 250-721-7599. You can download the UVic Safety App for easy access to Campus Security services and alerts. Please also visit UVic’s Harm Reduction Centre for help with making informed and safer choices around substance use.

Our community is full of opportunities to get involved, get connected and make a difference. Tomorrow’s ThunderFest is a wonderful example of how we come together in a positive way. I hope to see you there.

Wishing you a wonderful start to term!

Sincerely,

Jim Dunsdon (he/him)
