To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s final report, Qwul’sih’yah’maht, Dr. Robina Thomas has penned an opinion piece for the Vancouver Sun highlighting the importance of being guided by the Laws and Philosophies.

Entitled “Truth and reconciliation: 10 years of learning, four teachings for the future,” the opinion piece offers her personal reflections on the importance of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as well as insights on how to make post-secondary education better for all students in the future.

In my daily prayers to the Creator, I ask that we continue to honour our commitments to the local Nations and that our young people always know that post-secondary education is within their reach. Not every path will be through the academy—and it shouldn’t be. We need the trades, we need the professionals, we need Knowledge Keepers and leaders in every field. My hope, my vision, is that Indigenous youth carry with them the understanding that education in all its forms is a possibility, and that they feel supported and welcomed when they choose that path.”
