The Great BC ShakeOut will take place on Oct. 17. The following University of Victoria experts are available to media to discuss earthquakes and community safety:
Lucinda Leonard (School of Earth and Ocean Sciences) studies and assesses earthquake and tsunami hazards, mainly related to tectonic plate boundaries and faulting in western Canada. Her latest research is on earthquake sources in our region and newly discovered active faults that cross Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea. (Contact: [email protected])
Edwin Nissen (School of Earth and Ocean Sciences) is an expert on earthquake faulting, active tectonics, and seismic and tsunami hazards. Regions of interest include the Cascadia subduction zone, western Canada more broadly, and the Middle East, but he is available to comment on earthquake and tsunami stories wherever they emerge.
