What was your favourite memory at UVic?
My favourite memory from my time at UVic is my first time on campus. While leaving my first class, I saw two deer walking in the grass. It was a surprise to see wildlife on campus. Seeing those deer made me more comfortable being away from home. It reminded me of the wildlife I see all the time up North. I will also remember the friendships I gained throughout this program.
What was your favourite spot on campus?
In the final year of my program, I attended one class on campus. Creating connections with my peers in person was such a great experience. I was on campus in May, and my favourite place to walk was in the Finnerty Gardens. Lots of flowers were in bloom, compared to how they grow where I am from.
What was your most impactful class?
My most impactful course was my last practicum, which I completed in my community with an Indigenous Infant Development Program. I was able to take what I learned from course work and put it into practice. I also formed connections with other professionals in the field. I enjoyed the course I completed on campus because it enhanced my knowledge and skills while allowing me to connect with my peers in person.
What are your plans after graduation? Is this path what you envisioned for yourself growing up?
My educational journey has been constantly evolving. I completed my early childhood education diploma and worked in childcare and education. Completing a Bachelor of Child and Youth Care was the next step in extending my knowledge and gaining experience. After graduation I plan to apply to a Master of Counselling and hope to continue working in the field.

What’s your favourite thing to do off campus?
A few favourite places stand out from my time at UVic. Willows Beach was a nice getaway for a walk and seat by the water. I also loved going down to Fisherman’s Wharf for fish and chips. I enjoyed trying the different restaurants that everyone recommended. There’s still so much more I would like to explore in Victoria!
How would you describe your time at UVic in one word?
Empowering.
