The Alumni office wing of Ian Stewart Complex will re-open Sept. 2. We expect the rest of the building, including the ice rink, to re-open Sept. 3.

Update Sept. 1, 4:20 p.m.

The university can confirm that elevated levels of carbon monoxide were found in the Ian Stewart Complex after the building was evacuated.  

Three staff members were assessed for carbon monoxide exposure on the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, one staff member was transported to hospital for further assessment. 

We cannot yet confirm the source of the carbon monoxide, but we believe it’s related to a zamboni malfunction. It was not related to ammonia used in the ice rink.

Emergency responders have determined the building is safe for re-entry. However, out of an abundance of caution, the building will remain closed for the rest of the day.

Sept. 1, 12 p.m.

Air quality concerns have been reported at the Ian Stewart Complex. The building has been evacuated.  

Campus Security, Facilities Management and emergency responders are on site and are working to address the issue.  

The issue is not related to ammonia used in the ice rink. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
