Aaron Devor (He/Him; Faculty of Social Sciences) is the world’s only Chair in Transgender Studies, founder and subject matter expert for UVic’s Transgender Archives, which is the largest in the world, and the founder and host of the international, interdisciplinary Moving Trans History Forward conferences. Devor’s pioneering efforts to showcase Trans+ history and activism in Canada have garnered him global attention as a leader in transgender research and a public commentator on trans issues and rights. As he prepares to lead a Trans+ contingent in Victoria’s 2024 Pride Festival, Devor can speak to the rich history of Trans+ activism. (Email: [email protected])
Nathan Lachowsky (He/Him; Faculty of Human & Social Development) is an expert in 2S/LGBTQQIA+ health and health equity. He is currently leading a study aimed at filling knowledge gaps in sexual and reproductive health in queer communities in Canada. The project, “Our Health: A Community-Based Participatory Study of Sexual and Reproductive Health of Two-Spirit and LGBTQQIA+ People Across Canada,” recently received a $2.6 million grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Under Lachowsky’s leadership and in partnership with the Community Based Research Centre, the research team aims to render visible the unmet needs of 2S/LGBTQQIA+ communities with respect to sexual and reproductive care access, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic.
