While Trans+ people are being directly targeted by US anti-trans legislation, the University of Victoria remains a sanctuary for the Trans+ community.  Moving Trans History Forward (MTHF) is a series of biennial international conferences, this year scheduled for March 27 – 30 at the University of Victoria and hosted by the world’s first and only Chair in Transgender Studies, Aaron Devor.

Special guest, Colonel Jennifer N. Pritzker, (Retired), founder of the Tawani Foundation, will attend the opening ceremony of the conference. Pritzker made the initial donation of more than $1 million USD that established the Chair in Transgender Studies in 2016.

The 2025 edition will be the sixth conference in the series, with more than 125 speakers, 18 concurrent sessions, two keynote events, a Two-Spirit Trans+ Indigenous Panel, an Elders Panel, and a Youth Panel.

For over a decade, MTHF has worked to move trans history forward. Organizers expect attendees from across the globe, with the hybrid event being offered in both in-person and online formats.

The conference attracts hundreds of registrants from dozens of countries on every continent except Antarctica.

MTHF connects Trans+ community members, their allies, friends and family, students and faculty, artists, activists and service providers for a gathering that is needed now more than ever.
