Jaden Dawson completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. She grew up in North Vancouver, BC, and moved to Victoria in 2021. Jaden won four national championship titles as a member of the Vikes women’s field hockey team. In 2025, she won the Provost Award by earning the highest grade-point average (GPA) among all student-athletes at UVic.
What moment or memory stands out most from your time at UVic?
Spending time with teammates. We were such a close-knit group, and those moments together meant everything. My favourite memory was travelling to PEI for field hockey nationals this past year. Exploring Charlottetown and visiting Cavendish Beach were such cool experiences.

Where did you spend most of your time studying, hanging out or unwinding on campus?
I spent most of my time studying in the McKinnon Building or on the third floor of the library. To unwind, you could usually find me at CARSA in the field hockey locker room.
Which course or instructor had a positive impact on your academic or personal growth?
I loved kinesiology, and all the instructors were amazing. They were always there to support you and show genuine interest in you as a person. I enjoyed EPHE 444, where I took part in validity testing for the BC Wildland Firefighting Employment Test. Although the multiple VO2 max tests were challenging, the experience was very rewarding.
What activity or experience outside the classroom meant the most to you?
The years I spent with my best friends playing field hockey are my most meaningful memories. The culture of our team is built by all the amazing people who are part of it. Both the current team and alumni have created something special here at UVic.
What are your plans for after graduation and is it the path you envisioned for yourself growing up?
I’ve always wanted to do something related to health and helping people. Kinesiology really strengthened that passion. Right now, I’m working at the North Shore Disability Resource Centre. I previously did Search and Rescue (SAR) with the Coast Guard. I’m still figuring out exactly what path I want to take, but I know it will involve supporting others in a meaningful way.

What would you tell someone who is considering choosing UVic for their degree?
I loved UVic. It has a great community and is small enough that you can meet lots of people. It’s perfect if you enjoy the outdoors, with places like Tofino nearby, tons of beaches and mountain biking.
What’s one lesson or mindset from your time at UVic that you’ll carry with you into the next chapter of your life?
The importance of community and support. Having people around you who genuinely care makes all the difference, both in your success and your overall experience.
